Despite severe warnings and amid a complete absence of reality the ECPA Book Expo rolled into Dallas and sucked in almost no Christian book readers to the cavernous Dallas Convention Center. Tumbleweeds were heard rolling down the aisles as the publishing staff set about selling as many books to each other as possible.
Batreader queried the project with ECPA President Mark Kuyper 18 months ahead of the event but ECPA still went ahead with the flawed concept given to it by the ECPA board. How did so many clever people get it so stupidly wrong?
The real problem with an internally focussed industry is that we didn't realise just how insignificant in people's lives we are. Sure, our books can change lives and are appreciated - just not appreciated as much as a quilting convention, that's all!
